Softerra LDAP Administrator is the industry-leading software product for browsing and managing LDAP directories. It provides a wide variety of features essential for those involved in LDAP development, deployment and administration. Most of these newly implemented functions are really unique and unprecedented - to date there is nothing to match their efficiency in the existing LDAP software packages. The main goal pursued by LDAP Administrator is to deliver a powerful, integrated yet easy to use tool capable of working with any LDAP server around.
Softerra is pleased to present yet another major update of LDAP Administrator 3 being version 3.2! This brand new edition introduces a set of innovative features to ensure a much better performance and share our experience in a commitment to provide the best LDAP tool ever. Here is a list of the key improvements version 3.2 has to offer
Take a look at the highlights of the key innovations in this release of LDAP Administrator:
Application Performance
Basic workspaces such as the Scope Pane and the List View Pane have both undergone a complete performance overhaul. From now on, operations like sorting produce a 500% improvement in efficiency and speed compared to the previous version, while in general the application requires far less resources when displaying large amounts of data.
Groups and Members Management
The update introduces a set of wizards and property pages to manage groups and members. With these new tools, adding a new member to a group, or changing group membership is as easy as a couple of mouse clicks. LDAP Administrator is now preset to support all well known object classes by default, while still remaining fully customizable to ensure an ability to add and further support custom object classes.
DNS SRV RR Support
Another LDAP Administrator new feature is support of DNS SRV resource records – a DNS mechanism used to publish server addresses so that clients could obtain lists of available servers by just using a domain name. If your server is published in your DNS, you will no longer need to type in its name when creating or editing a profile – just click a button and choose your server name from a list of those published.
Directory Search
The Directory Search tool now features Simple Paging support, which allows ignoring a 1000 entries limit imposed by Active Directory or other servers that restrict an amount of entries to be returned per query.
What the tool also introduces is the sorting feature for newly found data. With version 3.2, all what’s required for sorting is just a click on the Attributes column header.
Displayed Attributes Property Page
Save and load your favorite sets of attributes from a file or copy them from the clipboard. This new feature addresses those who regularly export specific portions of directory data by pointing some particular attributes to be exported.
Password Editor
The ntPassword and lmPassword attributes join the ones supported by LDAP Administrator. These belong to the schema used by a popular open Internet project called Samba and are now available for editing and value verification via Password Manager.
Another newly supported attribute is unicodePwd, which is used to hold passwords in Active Directory and ADAM servers. Now you can set or change passwords when on the above servers using a special Reset Password application tool.
Entry Creation Wizard
The extensibleObject object class is now supported.
The wizard now properly handles multiple inheritance object classes.
Miscellaneous
A built-in set of pre-defined entry templates, which covers most common entry creation cases, allows you to significantly facilitate the overall process.
An ability to disable Drag-n-Drop provides protection from unintentional modification or relocation of entries.
Server Monitor now works fine with the IBM Directory Server.
New installer.
Bug fixes.

Where are my profiles stored? How can I edit or copy them to another PC?
Profiles are stored in the metabase.stg file located in the %user_home%\Local Settings\Application Data\Softerra\LDAP Administrator 3 folder. This file is not human readable, so it can't be read or manually edited. To copy your profiles from one workstation to another, just copy the metabase.stg file into an appropriate folder of a destination PC.
I can't connect to my server via a secure (SSL) connection. What's wrong? What can I handle that?
SSL is a tough issue, which requires certain knowledge to be able to perform necessary actions on the server side in order to install SSL support. If you aren't familiar with X.509 and SSL in particular, you expose yourself to a high risk of making a mistake while issuing a server certificate or adjusting your server configuration, which will make it impossible to connect to the server. Our experience shows that in 99% of cases SSL problems appear due to the server-side issues. To troubleshoot your SSL issues, try running your server or SCHANNEL API (an SSL implementation used by LDAP Administrator) in the debug mode.
