LDAP filters provide a powerful mechanism to search a directory tree for entries that match specific criteria. A search operation may sometimes produce large results needing to be filtered. For this purpose LDAP Administrator allows you to set various LDAP filters for entries in the tree to be able to retrieve just the information you require.
To specify a custom filter for an entry:
Select an entry, which you'd like to have as a statrting point to filter information down from.
Do one of the following:
In the Filter box of the Entry toolbar, type a filter you'd like to set, or click the arrow on the box to choose one of the filters previously used and press Enter.
Open the context menu of the currently selected entry, type your filter in the Filter box and press Enter.
Open the Entry Properties page for the currently selected entry by clicking Properties on the Standard toolbar. Enter your filter into the Filter box and click OK. To specify a filter, you can use LDAP Filter Builder, which is launched by clicking the button inside the edit box.
After a new filter for the entry has been specified, this entry will be automatically refreshed to eventually contain only those sub-entries that satisfy the filter's criteria.
To remove a custom filter from an entry:
Select an entry, from which you wish to remove a custom filter.
Click Establish Parent Filter on the LDAP Entry toolbar or from the element's context menu.
This will remove the current custom filter from an entry to replace it with one of the parent's.
An LDAP filter can be applied either to siblings or to descendants of an entry.
To specify the filtering scope:
Select an entry, for which you wish to specify the filtering scope.
Open the Entry Properties page for the currently selected entry by clicking Properties on the Standard toolbar.
Check the Propagate filter to descendants box if you'd like the filter to affect all the entry's descendants, otherwise leave it unchecked.
All entries, whose filter is different from the one preset by default (objectclass=*), are marked with a special icon: . |
